April to May
Dutch meteorological spring actually begins in quite a whimsical manner. Indeed, the Dutch go even as far as saying that “April does what it wants” – literally, “April doet wat het wil”.
The first day of April can bring quite extreme temperatures in the shapes of ups and downs. They go from sweating to shivering asking for a cocoa, in what looks like a span of five minutes. Fortunately, the weather improving towards the end of the month does make things a little better. It is now officially possible to celebrate the King’s Day – a new public holiday which is the 27th. They enjoy it through music festivals, canal parades, and fabulous open air markets.
