Whether your children are in the toddler stage or the teenage years, Amsterdam is a great family friendly city. What other place can you boast a canal, see a working windmill, and have the daylights scared out of you in a dungeon all in a day? But not to forget... there are great museums, history, attractive landmarks, and of course, bicycle riding, and river cruising.

Not too long ago the UK’s ‘National Trust’ came up with an awesome campaign to encourage children to go out and play. Entitled ’Things to do before you’re 11 ¾’, it is crammed full of fantastic suggestions as to how children can be encouraged to get out and about and be active. Here are our top recommendations of things any child must get out and do in Amsterdam before they are 12.
- Put on a lab coat and complete an experiment at Nemo
- Solve the interactive Family Quest at the Rijksmuseum
- Fire a cannon from the East India Ship at the Scheepvaartmuseum
- Place stickers in a medal after coming through Prince Louis at The Royal Palace
